History of Living Well Group

Living Well Group was founded in 2004 with the mission to provide holistic, person-centered elder care in Vermont. The organization began with its first residential care home in Bristol, pioneering an integrative medical approach that emphasizes whole-person care, dignity, and community.

In 2011, Living Well Group expanded its services by acquiring the Ethan Allen Residence in Burlington. This facility is situated near the historic Ethan Allen Homestead, the last home of Vermont's revolutionary hero, Ethan Allen, built in 1787. The residence continues to honor the legacy of its namesake by providing a supportive environment for older adults.

In 2014, the organization further extended its reach by opening Heaton Woods Residence in Montpelier. This facility occupies the former Heaton Hospital, established in 1896 as Vermont's third hospital. After the hospital merged with Barre City Hospital in 1968 to form the Central Vermont Medical Center, the building was repurposed for elder care, eventually becoming Heaton Woods Residence.

Today, Living Well Group operates multiple Level III Residential Care Homes, including Ethan Allen Residence and Heaton Woods Residence, offering personalized support in environments that foster community and a true sense of home. The organization remains committed to its founding principles, providing elder care that integrates medical oversight with meaningful activities, community engagement, and a nurturing environment.
